21. Systemic changes and sustainable consumption and production: cases from product-service systems
Oksana Mont and Tareq Emtairah, International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics, Sweden
Radical and more systemic changes are needed in the
way we produce and consume. However, there are a number of conceptual,
analytical and practical challenges with system-level changes. In this chapter
we analyse existing product-service system (PSS) cases that serve as
approximations of desired systemic innovations and discuss the dynamics and
transformations needed in PSSs to attain SCP. Then, drawing on system view of
the processes of innovation, we construct a conceptual map of PSS system
components and the underlying institutional and structural elements, to provoke
a discussion of the dynamics of change and potential for policy stimuli.
